MUTCD is the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the federal standard published by FHWA defining requirements for traffic signs, signals, and work zone safety devices on all US public roads.
A Traffic Cone is a portable channelizing device typically made of PVC or rubber, used to redirect vehicle traffic in work zones, parking areas, and emergency scenes. Sizes generally range from 18 to 42 inches, depending on the posted speed limit of the application.
A Type III Barricade is a traffic control device with three retroreflective horizontal rails, typically required by MUTCD for road closures and sustained highway work zones above 45 mph.
Retroreflectivity is the optical property of a surface that returns incident light toward its source, enabling traffic control devices to remain visible to drivers at night under headlamp illumination. Minimum maintained values are set by MUTCD Section 2A.08.
A Work Zone is an area of a roadway where construction, maintenance, or utility work is taking place, typically marked by signs, cones, and channelizing devices as defined in MUTCD Part 6.
Traffic cones are typically governed by MUTCD Section 6F.66. In most work zone applications, cones must be at least 28 inches tall and include retroreflective collars. Highway work zones above 45 mph generally require 36-inch cones with two collars, depending on the applicable state MUTCD supplement.
In most cases, yes. Saferoad channelizing devices are typically designed to meet current MUTCD standards. Our 28-inch and 36-inch cones generally include ASTM D4956 Type III retroreflective sheeting and are usually suitable for all speed zones up to 65 mph, depending on your jurisdiction's current MUTCD edition.
Bulk bid pricing typically begins at 100 units. Wholesale pricing (generally 10% off retail) usually begins at 10 units. Most orders ship from our Saint Louis, Missouri warehouse within 1-2 business days, depending on carrier availability.
Yes, in most cases. Saferoad typically ships to all US states and Canadian provinces. Canadian orders generally reference TAC MUTCDC specifications where applicable. Most Canadian orders typically arrive within 3-5 business days, depending on customs clearance.
Saferoad traffic cones typically use ASTM D4956 Type III high-intensity prismatic (HIP) retroreflective sheeting by default. Sheeting warranty is generally 10 years for Type III. Type I sheeting is available for lower-cost applications where speed limits are typically below 25 mph.
Yes. Saferoad's Type III barricades and water-filled barriers are typically crash-rated to NCHRP 350 Test Level 3. Non-crashworthy devices such as traffic cones are clearly labeled as generally unsuitable for vehicle impact zones, depending on site-specific risk assessment.
Orders placed before 2 PM Central Time typically ship same business day from our Saint Louis warehouse. Most in-stock items generally arrive within 2-3 business days for Midwest customers, depending on carrier routing. LTL freight for large orders is usually arranged within 4 hours of order confirmation.
